Fancy a Coffee with Cats?
Here a Cat there a Cat Everywhere a Kitty Cat!! Now if you are wondering what a Cat’s got to do with a slice of the best ever Carrot cake and a shot of espresso, well then welcome to Mumbai’s first ever Cat Café Studio located in four Bungalows Versova,Mumbai. Feline friends will be delighted to spend a couple hours at this café playing with Cats that are housed in the Enclosed section. The café hosts almost 20-30 species. These cats are usually stray cats taken from the streets ,that now have a home. They have been spayed and neutered and are all up for adoption (for free, provided you meet their requirements, which is being an ardent cat lover of course!!)
While this concept is new to Mumbai, Cat cafes are very popular especially in Japan says the Manager of the café. Apartments in Japan forbid pet ownership, and hence a lot of these cat café’s have sprung up. These café’s enable pet lovers to spend some time with cats and can be very relaxing and enjoyable too.
The studio has a nice Patio for those who may just want to use it as a café and sip a coffee or grab a quick bite. This place is abuzz with teenagers and perhaps a great opportunity for them to volunteer their time at the cafe. Interestingly the Cat cafe studio is an NGO.

Ramadan Kareem to those who observe this holy month of fasting.
My recent blog feed has some fabulous posts that were a visual delight as many fellow bloggers have been posting for Ramadan. Some focussing on various street eats, special hotel buffets and tents while others cooking up a storm in their kitchens. One such post on Facebook brought back recollections of a fantastic experience from last year.
Mumbai has an eclectic and vibrant neighbourhood that comes alive around Ramadan every year. These by-lanes of Mohammad Ali Road,Bhendi bazaar and Bohri Mohalla are abuzz with food vendors and street stalls. This is perhaps one of Mumbai’s oldest and significantly iconic neighbourhood’s that reverberates fervent activity at sundown and can quite rightly be named the old Muslim quarter.Wandering down these lanes can turn into a delightful experience for the senses as one revels in the array of street food and small eateries that serve up some finger licking good food. I was overjoyed to be invited into the kitchen’s of the Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre, yet once again. This time it was for the Valentine’s Day event at the Lake View Cafe.In keeping with the theme,I was asked to provide some of my favourite recipes for Sundae’s.The idea being, getting diner’s at the restaurant to go ahead and make up their own creations for either themselves, their spouse or their friends. What a wonderful way of saying “Happy Valentines’s. Rhomesecrets is an initiative by the Renaissance in collaboration with SecretIndianrecipe to bring traditional Indian home flavours to life in a five-star hotel kitchen. It was indeed a great experience to have participated in the home chefs event and I certainly look forward to many such opportunities.
Here is an image of the decadent Brownie A la Mode that I whipped up..The event took place at the Hokey Pokey Ice-cream cart at the restaurant. The diner’s had a choice of making up Sundaes of their choice, pairing it with Brownie’s, assorted garnishes such as Blueberry Compote,Sour Cherries,Chocolate chips,Nuts and Fresh fruit too.Alternatively they could get their ice cream fix on the cold stone slab where multiple flavour’s could be combined and topped off with sprinkles and sauce’s of their choice.
