My Amritsar Diaries: The Golden Temple,Street Eats & A Recipe

A visit to the golden temple in Amritsar had been on our “Must Visit List” for quite many years now, amongst various other destinations in India. We took a short weekend trip and were absolutely in awe of this wonderful place that radiates divine peace and tranquility. The Golden Temple is also known as the Harimandir Sahib and is prime religious place of the Sikhs, but also welcomes people of all walks of life and religions. The first sight of the Golden Temple is breathtaking and one is drawn into a state of utter peace and tranquility. A great experience around the temple is partaking in the langar, which involves selfless volunteers that run the community kitchen and serve free meals to all the visitors to the temple. Sitting on the floor of the temple and enjoying a simple meal While visit to the temple is the main attraction in Amritsar, one could explore The Jallianwala Bagh memorial which is in close proximity to the temple. Overall, a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar …

Anything is good if it is made with Chocolate…   Chocolate and Peanut butter lovers are in for a treat with these oh so delicious mini truffles.I have been experimenting with a couple of recipes now.The recipe below is one which has been adapted from deliciouslyyum.com. All though ,I have tweeked the recipe and added my own twist by coating them with some crushed peanuts and sprinkles.Die hard chocoholics may even choose to leave them with a smooth chocolate coating. Well those of you who  have been following my blogging journey have probably seen me make these up for a kids at a no bake workshop a couple of years ago. They absolutely love getting their hands messy with chocolate and making up these truffles. The creamy peanut butter interior is perfectly paired with a delicious dark chocolate coating.I also like to use an alternative recipe that uses Cream cheese,Peanut butter and Melted Chocolate.Either ways they turn out great. The summer holidays are upon us,so do go  ahead and make these up with your kids. The flavours of Chocolate and …

Best Ever Chocolate Chip & Walnut Cookies

It’s been baking mayhem in my kitchen these past few weeks.I’ve been testing out scores of recipes from breads, pastries, tarts and cookies of course. While  most of this has been work related,I decided that I would treat myself to  a nice, warm and gooey cookie. And the reason I say for myself is ,when I bake up stuff for the test kitchen,I barely ever land up eating the baked goods. Most often they are packed off to family and friends and a small sampler kept aside for the dear hubs who is ever willing to sample and indulge in my baking. I had actually started off on another post which is related to a recent getaway to a vineyard located a couple of hours from  Mumbai. This post was written up in the middle of the baking mania as was just too excited to share one of my favourite cookie recipe’s with you. Oh  I do have a soft spot for Cookies of course and especially these gorgeous one’s which are loaded with chocolate chips and some walnuts that add …

Sri Lanka: Sights & Flavour’s around Galle plus a Culinary Workshop

Our  holiday earlier last year to Galle, turned out to be an unplanned and delightful Culinary trail as it were to be. The dear hubs was travelling to Bentota, Sri Lanka and messaged me if I’d like to  join him in Colombo for a couple of days. Perhaps a quick getaway from there on was what was so needed.Well most certainly yes, was my answer. I call it the only joy of being an empty nester. With the dear son being at University, it’s great to be able to do these quick getaway’s  out of Mumbai. Having spent a couple of days in Colombo, I was ready for our drive to Galle ( pronounced as Gawl) which is a three-hour drive and a beautiful one too. As we drove into the city I was pleased to discover this  ex Dutch Colony, is by the beach coast with some spectacular views. It is no no surprise that our hotel too overlooks the Arabian Ocean and would promise us numerous Kodak moments. We arrive at the Jetwing Lighthouse …

Chicken Meat Loaf: Masterchef Approved

Traditionally a Meatloaf calls for either ground beef or even mutton mince which works great too.I have been trying to cut back on using red meat and was looking for a leaner option for a meat loaf.Chicken mince is a great low-fat option for most pies and have experimented with it in a Shepherd’s pie as well.I was contemplating using it while experimenting with a meat loaf recipe. Now those of you have been following my journey, probably know that I’ve been involved with content creation for  Masterchef Sanjeev Kapoor’s  Khazana Youtube. It’s been an exhilarating experience indeed. I choose to make up this chicken meat loaf as a recipe for a demo a few weeks ago.I had made this up a couple of times in my kitchen, hence was pretty confident of the outcome. The family too loved it,especially since it comes out really quite moist.I went on with the rest of the demo’s for the day and was pretty much done by lunchtime. Now Alyona Kapoor (Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s wife) who is a dear friend of mine wanted …
